Cryptograms

7 October – 31 October 2020

ADRIAN HOBBS

Titled Cryptograms, this group of works is a further exploration of my enduring interest in the structural dynamics of chaos, but one mediated more deeply by the senses and human experience. It could be read as the application of terms to something not fully understood but still apprehended instinctually, much in the sense of a gestalt. A cryptogram by definition is a text written in code, or a symbol/figure with secret or occult significance. These works all individually pertain to a discreet sense, but one that is only a small aspect of a greater, undefinable and constantly shifting and dynamic whole. In this respect they amount to what is a kind of speculative abstraction, one that is underscored by a telos that reaches even further into the unknown.
