Piece of Work is exploring and asking questions about aspects of ‘work’. How do we define ourselves by what we do? Where does work stop and perhaps ‘play’ begin? What is considered work? Is art work? Why are certain kinds of work considered more important than others?
Piece of work is also talking about work as a gesture, an artistic gesture or even a gesture made intending to produce something. No matter how specific our gestures are, there is always unintentional or even sub-conscious events that result. Piece of Work looks at the act of creating as work and making the intention to create, a visible aspect of the work. Aspects used such as hands, rocks, colours, paint, gestures, the hand-made all allude to the notions of work and creativity.
What we try to do in the world might produce effects and implications that are quite unknown or foreign to us.
