David Lawrey & Jaki Middleton are Australian born artists based in Gadigal/Wangal country, Sydney, Australia. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, they are best known for their integration of optical and kinetic elements to create compelling dreamlike scenes.
The artists actively seek to connect with audiences by creating immersive works that reconfigure familiar scenes to create new meaning. Increasingly, their practice responds to issues such as the climate crisis and social alienation; and reflects upon their personal complicity in the systems and cycles that drive the status quo.
Lawrey & Middleton’s work has been exhibited at the MCA Australia; ACMI, Melbourne; Performance Space, Sydney; Cementa19, Kandos; FACT Liverpool, UK; Museum of Arts and Design, New York, USA; and MUba – Eugène Leroy, Tourcoing, France.
